Notifies Number of Digits of harmonised System of Nomenclature Code for Daman & Diu

Notification No. 14/2017 - Union Territory Tax: Harmonised System of Nomenclature Codes Requirement

The Government of India, through the Ministry of Finance's Department of Revenue, issued Notification No. 14/2017 on June 30, 2017. This notification, effective from July 1, 2017, pertains to the Union Territory Goods and Services Tax (Daman and Diu) Rule, 2017. It mandates that registered persons must include the digits of the Harmonised System of Nomenclature (HSN) Codes in their tax invoices, based on their annual turnover. The notification outlines a table specifying the requirements: businesses with a turnover of less than 1.5 crore rupees are not required to mention any HSN Code digits; those with a turnover exceeding 1.5 crore but less than 5 crores must include 2 digits; and businesses with a turnover of 5 crores or more must include 4 digits. This regulation aims to standardize the invoicing process and ensure uniformity in the classification of goods and services across different turnover categories. The notification was issued under the authority of S.R. Meena, the Under Secretary to the Government of India.
