GST - Government has extended the last date for filing GSTAT appeals to 31 July 2026, giving taxpayers additional time due to technical issues caused by a surge in appeal filings [Press release attached]

The government has announced an extension for the last date to file appeals before the GST Appellate Tribunal (GSTAT), moving it from the original deadline of June 30, 2026, to July 31, 2026. This decision comes in response to technical issues arising from a significant surge in appeal filings. Taxpayers are now given additional time to submit their appeals under Section 112(1) read with Section 112(3) of the GST law.
The extension was necessary after stakeholders reported difficulties accessing the GSTAT portal due to the high volume of last-minute filings. In the two weeks leading up to the initial deadline, approximately 30,000 appeals were lodged, with daily filings peaking at about 5,500. To avoid similar issues in the future, the government has advised taxpayers to refrain from waiting until the last moment to file their appeals.
